It seems that everywhere we look there is a new hashtag, movement, or challenge sweeping the media, Facebook, or Instagram. Some have a level of merit; some have a level of absurdity.
Perhaps the answer is to start my own hashtag, another movement, another challenge? I too would like to see some things change in society, our community, and even in the people of our church. As the world works 24/7 to shape the mind, and character of our nation we see the stress cracks on the family, the nation, and our own lives. With all these external forces working overtime on us I am reminded that we, the holy people of God, are shaped by the Holy Spirit through the Word of God. As a people who cry out “create in me a clean heart O God and renew a steadfast spirit within me,” we understand that the continual transformation of our minds (thoughts) will only come from the power of God through His creative Word of Power.
So what forms you and shapes your character? What do you spend your time reading, watching, listening to? WE are influenced by these things whether we want to admit it or not. We are a people who live in the world but are not of the world. It is imperative then, that we are formed and shaped not by the world but by other forces. So how much time do you spend in the Word of God every day? How much time in front of the TV? How much time on social media? How much time reading books that promote the thoughts of a fallen world? How much time watching movies? How much time? While some of these things may be entertaining or mind numbing how much real joy, or peace, or depth do you find in these things?
So here goes the challenge, #NewDay. It is hard to change the way we do things and the results are often incremental. Starting is the hardest part. The challenge is to change the pattern, the input, those things which form the character and focus of your life. On Monday, April 9th we will begin a challenge of family and personal devotions. How do you do that? Well that is the point. Over the weeks that follow we will begin a planned devotional pattern that begins with a shorter commitment and adds to that as the weeks continue. Will you take on the challenge for a #REYOU with me and your brothers and sisters in Christ at OSL? We will take one bible class per month to talk about our progress. We will share what we have learned, what we notice in our lives, what has shifted in our thinking, and rejoice over those changes. Will you join the movement, the challenge? You will see positive, joyful, and faith deepening results in you and your family’s life.
#REYOU: I will have a sign up in the back of the church to help me plan on how many manuals to create to aid you in this journey.
There will be other items added to help you along the way throughout the year. YOU will not want to miss out. Anyone can start at any time if you get to a point that you feel you need to join the challenge.
