A letter from the Pastor

March 27, 2020

Dearest fellow believers of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church,

The last week or two have seen many doors close as well as other doors open!  The doors to the church have been closed to our normal worship gathering for Sundays and midweek Lenten services.  The doors to hospital and nursing homes have closed to pastoral and family visits.  The doors to restaurants that we have loved to frequent have been locked to sit down dinners.  At the same time doors have opened to using technology to broadcast/stream our worship services on TV and on the internet in real time.  Thanks be to God that HIS WORD is not bound.  I have seen the doors of people’s hearts opened to serving other people with the gifts and talents provided by God for the service of others.  There are many silver linings to the clouds around us.

Although the in-person worship services of God’s house have been barred, the work of the church has not.  We will continue to stream services and I will add some new opportunities for online Bible Class in the days to come.  Please keep looking for email messages as well as posts on our web page:  oslhutch.com

I encourage you to have devotions in your home.  If you need anything delivered please do not hesitate to ask; I will get you a Portals of Prayer if you need one.  There are also many wonderful items for worship and study provided free of charge right now on CPH.org – check them out!

Another important part of the ministry, the distribution of the Lord’s Supper, is hampered by the state order to not have large gatherings.  I will, however, have the Lord’s Supper available by appointment at predetermined times or by special request.

1:  SUNDAY MORNINGS: Communion will be available on Sundays from 7:30 till 8:30 a.m. and 10:30-11:30 a.m.  Appointments will be by family and 20 minutes apart to allow for time between families.  If more times will be added as needed.  Please call either me (582-0307) or the church office (587-3318) to reserve a spot.  The rear entrance to the building (by the kitchen) will be open and the Lord’s supper will be served in the Commons.

2:  BY APPOINTMENT throughout the week.   Call me and set up a time to meet for the Lord’s Supper.  Please do not hesitate to call.

Please know that the LORD is in control and we have NO reason to fear.

Several people have asked about what to do with their tithe to the Lord while the church building is closed to public gatherings.  I appreciate the question because the work of the ministry continues, and the costs continue as well.

-First, you can set up e-giving with the treasurer –  call the church office and Sherry will send the form to you.

-Second, you can mail your offerings to 800 Bluff ST NE.  If you need a stamped and addressed envelope mailed to you, please let us know and we will mail one to you.

-Third,  you can drop it off any day in the slot to the church office.  This would be a great option to use when you come for the Lord’s Supper.

I pray for all of you daily.  Please let me know if you have specific things you would like me to include in my prayers for you.

I have never looked forward to our meeting for worship together more than now and pray that it will happen on Easter Morning!  I am not sure when the actual date of return to worship together will be, but I believe that it will not happen prior to the date set by the Governor of April 10th .  We are planning to have Holy week services, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, live-streamed.

Until we gather again I wish you the Lord’s Peace.

In Jesus,

Pastor Oster
